Microsoft Announces RSAT Deprecation: What Dynamics 365 Customers Should Be Doing Now
Microsoft has officially announced the deprecation of the Regression Suite Automation Tool (RSAT), with support ending on May 15, 2027. After that date, Microsoft will no longer provide support, bug fixes, servicing, or feature enhancements for the tool. For many Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain organizations, this announcement from Microsoft probably feels less like a surprise and more like confirmation of something the community has been expecting for years.
While the official announcement is new, the direction itself is not. Microsoft has signaled for several years that RSAT was no longer a long-term strategic investment. At various points, Microsoft communicated that enhancements would slow down or stop altogether, yet small fixes and incremental updates continued to roll out, even as recently as 2025. For many customers, that created mixed signals around the future of the platform. However now the message is clear: organizations need to begin planning for what comes next.

Why RSAT Deprecation Makes Sense
RSAT was built specifically for Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations environments. And for what it was designed to do, it served many organizations well. The challenge is that most modern ERP environments no longer live inside a single application.
Today’s Dynamics customers operate across a growing ecosystem of products, integrations, ISVs, Power Platform solutions, external applications, ecommerce platforms, warehouse systems, and connected business processes. Testing a modern ERP landscape now requires much more than validating transactions inside D365FO alone.
Microsoft’s investment is moving toward broader automation strategies that support:
- End-to-end business process testing
- Cross-platform validation
- Integrated application environments
- Continuous delivery and update cycles
- Modern DevOps and automation practices
Automated Testing Is No Longer Optional
One of the biggest realities organizations need to acknowledge is that automated testing is no longer a “nice to have” for Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain deployments. It’s a foundational requirement for managing Continuous Updates successfully.
Microsoft’s evergreen update model means organizations are expected to validate critical business processes on a recurring basis to reduce risk during updates, enhancements, integrations, and customizations. Manual testing alone simply cannot keep pace with the speed and complexity of modern ERP environments.
For organizations still heavily reliant on manual regression testing, or relying exclusively on RSAT, this announcement should serve as a catalyst to modernize testing strategies now rather than waiting until support officially ends in 2027.
The Dynamics Testing Landscape Has Already Changed
The good news is the market has been preparing for this moment for quite some time. Over the past several years, a growing number of third-party automated testing platforms have entered the Dynamics ecosystem in anticipation of RSAT’s eventual retirement. Many of these tools offer broader capabilities designed for modern enterprise environments, including:
- Cross-application testing
- Low-code/no-code automation
- Scalable regression frameworks
- Integrated DevOps support
- End-to-end process validation
- Cloud-native testing strategies
The challenge for many organizations now is not finding a tool, but instead determining which solution best fits their unique environment.
Every Dynamics landscape looks different:
- Different Microsoft products
- Different ISVs
- Different integrations
- Different business processes
- Different levels of customization
- Different internal testing maturity
There is no universal “best” replacement for RSAT.
How Ellipse Can Help with Testing Needs
At Ellipse Solutions, we recognized this shift years ago and began evaluating the automated testing market long before Microsoft’s official announcement. Our team has already completed extensive research, evaluations, and selection processes around modern automated testing platforms so our customers don’t have to start from scratch.
We’ve identified and partnered with several solutions based on real-world customer needs, implementation realities, integration complexity, and long-term scalability considerations. That means organizations don’t need to spend months trying to navigate an increasingly crowded testing marketplace alone.
We can help your organization:
- Assess your current RSAT dependency
- Identify risks within your existing testing processes
- Evaluate which automated testing solutions best fit your environment
- Align testing strategy with Continuous Updates
- Build a practical migration roadmap
- Support testing across integrated systems and business processes
Whether your environment includes D365 Finance & Supply Chain, ISVs, Power Platform, ecommerce, third-party integrations, or other connected solutions, our team can help you identify a strategy built around your landscape, not a one-size-fits-all recommendation.
