Master Data Management in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3

What happens when you have hundreds of different users updating and modifying records at the same time?

What if multiple users are changing customer’s information in different instances and were left with 4 slightly different addresses?

How do we know what data we should keep and what data is duplicates?

This is what master data management addresses.

Master data management is the concept of maintaining a single source of truth. That there should be a main set of data that is shared across all computer systems in the enterprise. In Dynamics AX 2012 R3, Microsoft has added a methodology to create a set of master data by synchronizing all instances of AX with SQL server. Data can now be located in SQL and all instances will pull this data creating a master set of data. The video below details how AX manages and creates this set of master data.
