Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Financial Dimensions in Sales and Purchase Agreements

The financial dimensions and chart of account structure in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 have been significantly redesigned since AX 2009 days. The financial dimensions framework is very flexible and introduces many new concepts and features: system defined dimensions are available to be directly linked to the sub ledger master data.

A sales/purchase agreement is the contract outlining the agreed-upon price and terms for a sale or a purchase. In AX releases prior to AX 2012 R2 CU7, financial dimensions are not specified on sales agreements or purchase agreements.

Purchase agreements

A new Purchase order (PO) can be:

  • Released directly from an existing Purchase agreement on the Purchase agreement form (see the Release order icon on the Action pane). The agreement must be with a status of Effective.
  • Created from the Purchase order form. Purchase agreement terms can be applied to a header of a new PO at Create purchase order.

In both cases, information such as payment terms, delivery terms, and delivery address are copied to PO from the agreement. Prices and discounts from the purchase agreement are used for those lines for products and categories. However, prior to AX 2012 R2 CU7, the financial dimensions on a PO line are retrieved from the line’s Released product.

In AX 2012 R2 CU7, the financial dimensions on PO lines can be specified on Purchase agreements (either on the header or individual lines).

Then the financial dimensions are copied to the header of a purchase order that refers to the agreement. The dimensions are copied to the purchase order lines when the agreement is referenced by the order lines.

In addition, the same new feature to specify financial dimensions on the header or individual lines exists for sales agreements in AX 2012 R2 CU7
